According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade on Thursday, Vietnam earned over 9.5 billion US dollars from textile and garment exports in the first four months of this year, up 9% from the same stretch last year.

In April alone, Vietnam’s textile and garment exports rose 42.2 percent year on year to around 2.3 billion U.S. dollars.

Over the four-month period, the sector posted positive results as the demand in key markets gradually recovered, coupled with positive impacts of the free trade agreements that Vietnam joined, the ministry said.

Many exporting items such as clothes and fabric made from natural fibers have regained the growth momentum they had before the COVID-19 pandemic, local media cited the ministry as reporting.

According to the country’s General Statistic Office, Vietnam’s apparel and garment export turnover was about 29.5 billion US dollars in2020, down 10.2 percent from 2019. China, Japan, the European Union, South Korea, and the United States were its top export destinations.
